Click to view larger imageHeraldry was an essential part of the etiquette of a medieval fighter’s life. The fighter would have used coat of arms at any official function in which he or his lord was being presented. For this reason most of the Western Medieval Martial Arts community has integrated the use of Heraldry in its activities and in particular at tournaments. The OMSG has followed suit by requesting that every member of Scholler rank assume personal coat of arms that are heraldically correct.
When the apprentice is planning to challenge for the rank of OMSG Scholler they are requested to get in touch with the Herald to discuss their ideas for a design. The final arms must be approved by the Herald and the Executive and must conform to established Canadian heraldic practice and conventions. Once this is done, an explanation of the arms, as well as their meaning and symbolism is included on the OMSG Online Roll of Arms.
