Source: These arms are inspired by existing arms for the surname in Belgium as well as territorial arms associated with place of origin.

Symbolism: The tinctures are a reference to the Germanic origin of the name and are those of the Holy Roman Empire. The Lion is a reference to the etymology of the surname which is old Frankish for “son of a reigning warrior” and is also a reference to the fiefdom of the Counts of Namur whose Sable lion on Or standard was won during the First Crusade. The Fleur de Lys crest and the Azure claws and tongue refer to the marriage between the Ravignat family in Canada and some of the founding families of New France. The motto serves as an ideal for the family and the bearer.
